This year, we scheduled some work days for some good ‘ole fashioned fix-its. We encourage able-bodied individuals to help with power washing, repairs, moving rocks on the east line to make it safer, costing out things like a new shed (paid for by selling the silver bullet), building a lockable outside games box, fixing gates, rebuilding the bocce court, sprucing up the main sign, etc.—you get the idea.
We also need members to donate tools and hardware, rakes, etc. if you have them and we’ll buy what else we need. The list is long but many hands makes light work.
Earth Day is our standard cleanup day - raking leaves and picking up sticks, removing wrack from the marsh and picking up trash or glass along the shore. We might even have a special brigade to dig out the toilet that has been stuck in the sand for ages! It’s an eyesore.
Come May, the effort will shift to the boat ramp and rack. Ideally, the green thumbs in the membership will volunteer to plant some perennials along the park edges and annuals under the main sign. Let’s make the park pretty!
The first work party was the weekend of March 22/23. Beth Mitchell and Nick Mulvihill completely cleaned out and reorganized the shed. Nick provisioned the community with a spiffy new toolbox. LPIA’s pres and veep put together an equipment list for purchase. A good start!
On Earth Day, April 26th, Nick will not be available, so we are looking for some members to manage the leaf raking aspect of park clean up. See that event listed separately.
The last official work day weekend will be Friday, May 16th to Monday, May 18th when we will modify the boat rack to fit more watercraft and re-stencil the rack.
By July 1, we hope to redo the signage to make it warm and welcoming as well as alert members to new state regulations. We will try and address the movement of the small rocks near the east side of the boat ramp too.
Dan Karten, President, will be leading the charge. It will be fun and rewarding to see the improvements happen.
